Looking for the perfect Tuscany vacation rental that won’t require a second mortgage? This may be it. Between Florence and Siena you’ll find this family-run working estate, spanning Chianti hillsides covering 70 acres, and providing the kind of authentic, typically rustic and rural travel experience appreciated by the true adventure seeker.

Location

The estate is located between Florence and Siena, a few kilometers from Monteriggioni and San Gimignano. The small town of Staggia Senese (Staggia) is about 1 mile away and here you’ll find a small grocer, post office, café, a small restaurant and the ancient Castello di Staggia – a fortress from the 10th Century built to fend off attackers from the city-state of Siena. While the town is only about a mile away, keep in mind that this is rural farmland, and you’re better of in a car than on foot along these typically narrow two-lane roads. There are larger grocery stores and shops in Poggibonsi, about 5 miles away. Also in Poggibonsi is a train station which provides service to Florence, the trip lasts about an hour.

Property Details

This working farm is set on the top of a hill overlooking the beautiful Chianti landscape and enjoys spectacular sunsets. It produces Chianti wine, Olive oil, Vinsanto and Grappa as well as various grain crops. Guests of the farm can tour the facilities and purchase wines and olive oil from the cantina and taste for themselves the high quality of this small production estate. There are also uncultivated areas which, in the spring are covered with red poppies. Picturesque paths through these areas lead to adjacent farms. The original 19th century farmhouse has been carefully restored and transformed into six modernized apartments each with its own entrance.

The farmhouse is situation in the middle of the property around which are the estate’s outbuildings including a cantina, a reception office, outdoor tables where wireless internet is available, shared swimming pool (14m x 7m) and cement tennis court (racquets are available). There is a large communal area with ping-pong table, a play house, swing and bikes for the children. The estate provides a shared laundry facility (on payment) for the 6 apartments, shared outdoor spaces with tables and barbecues. A large parking area is located in front of the farmhouse. Each apartment enjoys wireless internet connection. Please note there is no air conditioning, and there are no screens on the windows. Please bring your insect repellent during the hottest months of July and August!

Farmhouse on ground level; 355 sq ft.
The Sangiovese apartment is on the ground floor. It is small, and we point out that there are 2 armchairs (pictured) in the kitchen/dining area. Therefore we recommend this apartment for those choosing to spend most of their time enjoying the pool and outdoors! The entrance is directly into the living space which includes a kitchenette (with oven and dishwasher) dining table with 3 chairs, and 2 armchairs. There is a double bedroom, and a bathroom with shower. The small apartment also enjoys a private outdoor space across the courtyard with table and chairs under a lovely gazebo, and barbecue.
